PENDLETON – Blue Mountain Community College has faced hardships in recent years, but Interim President Connie Green says the board of directors and personnel are working hard to turn things around.

“We are looking at a total redesign that they started a year earlier,” she said. “How do you reshape how you’re organized to better serve students and potentially even reduce some costs?”

Green said the problems began when 24 full-time and part-time employees were laid off and yet no structural changes of how the college serves its students occurred.

“Is it a budget woe, or do you need to right-size us,” Green queried. “You need to have the right direction. You need to have the right growth. You can’t right-size without right-growth.”

Green said a right-growth fund is being developed at BMCC and a portion of the federal stimulus funds due to the pandemic will go into that fund.
