PENDLETON – The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a red flag warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. PDT Sunday. The fire weather watch is no longer in effect.
Winds will increase on Sunday as a dry cold front sweeps across Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon, very dry air will also accompany the cold front, causing the relative humidity to quickly fall in many locations of the Columbia Basin. As a result, the Lower Columbia Basin of Oregon and Washington will be susceptible to rapid fire spread, particularly in dry grassing areas.
Winds out of the west from 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 miles per hour are forecast, along with relative humidity as low as 15 percent.
