OREGON – The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is reminding all Oregonians that the deadline to adopt a REAL ID is May 7, 2025, four months away. Once the deadline is reached, REAL IDs (which may come in the form of driver’s licenses, permits, or other identification) will be required to travel by plane in the United States or visit certain secure federal facilities such as military bases and nuclear power stations if not using a valid U.S. Passport.

Note that adoption of a REAL ID is not mandatory and is only required in the aforementioned circumstances. Oregonians may continue to use non-REAL ID identification cards or driver’s licenses at their discretion and may opt to use a valid U.S. passport when traveling by air or entering certain federal facilities. Keep in mind though that, while REAL ID cards can be used in place of a passport for air travel and entry to federal facilities within the U.S., they are NOT a direct equivalent to a U.S. Passport.

REAL ID costs $30 for each original, renewed, or replaced card.

ODOT is also seeking public feedback on the current awareness and adoption of REAL ID. Interested participants can fill out an anonymous six question survey at:
