Random act of kindness leaves impact

BAKER COUNTY – (Information from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) We love getting mail like this! Sheriff Ash received a letter recently, which detailed an act of kindness from a stranger. 

Steve had been hunting in the Granite area when his vehicle experienced mechanical issues. The area had just received approximately 2 inches of fresh snow overnight, so Steve decided he better pack out to the highway in search of help. After walking to the highway, a stranger pulled up next to him. The man took Steve back to his vehicle. They attempted to jump start the vehicle with no luck. He then drove Steve to Sumpter to purchase parts. When they got back to the vehicle, they worked on it for awhile but were still unable to get it to start. The man then took him to Baker City for additional parts. After working on the vehicle again, still no luck. Steve decided he would sleep in his truck overnight until his brother could pick him up the next day. It wasn’t long before the stranger returned that evening, this time with a steak dinner for Steve. The next morning the stranger returned and lead Steve’s brother to his campsite. After bringing additional supplies, they were able to get the vehicle running again. Steve and his brother offered the stranger cash for helping, but he refused and just asked Steve to pay it forward. 

Steve wrote this letter and wanted to thank “…the man who had selflessly given 1 1/2 days of his elk hunt and more kindness, generosity and helpfulness than any man can expect.” It just so happens that the stranger was Corporal Dennis Lefever, with the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
