Railroad repairs to close Ninth Avenue and Tietan Street in Walla Walla; delays expected

WALLA WALLA — Two consecutive road closures near Plaza Way are scheduled to begin next week for railroad repair and replacement projects, Walla Walla Public Works announced.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Columbia Rail will begin work on State Route 125/Ninth Avenue this coming Monday. The closure, located near Plaza Way, is expected to remain in place through Friday, June 26.

Motorists will be detoured around the Ninth Avenue work zone via Orchard Street, Third Avenue, Plaza Way, The Dalles Military Road, Myra Road, and Poplar Street.

Immediately following the completion of the first project, crews will close Tietan Street near Plaza Way starting Monday, June 29. That closure is scheduled to last through Thursday, July 2.

A detour for the Tietan Street project will direct traffic via Third Avenue, Orchard Street, Ninth Avenue, and Plaza Way.

Drivers are advised to expect delays, use alternate routes, and follow all posted detour signage.

While residents and pedestrians will maintain access to the affected areas, emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the work zones.
