PENDLETON – Joseph Robert Quintana, 18, of Pendleton will be in Sixth Circuit Court on Nov. 1. He was arrested on Sept. 28 in Grandview, Washington, on a felony warrant in the shooting that wounded David Salazar of Pendleton on Aug. 13.
Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said that Quintana’s bail remains set at $1.6 million. He is charged with attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless menacing, and reckless endangering.
As things stand currently, Quintana still has a right to a speedy trial, but that could change at the pretrial conference.
“At that point, we’re going to learn whether or not the defendant’s going to waive his 60-day trial right,” Primus said. “We should have some more information at that point.”
Primus said his office is proceeding as if there will be a trial within 60 days of Quintana’s arrest. Pendleton police stated that Salazar did not know Quintana or the man who was with him when the incident occurred. He told investigators they assaulted him, and he left the area to call police. While he was dialing 911 he was shot, allegedly by Quintana.
