Q&A with Randy Woody, headliner of the Eastern Oregon Country Music Festival

UNION COUNTY – Join headliner Randy Woody at the Eastern Oregon Country Music Festival next weekend in Union.  Elkhorn Media Group staff sat down with Woody this week to chat about his music and his band and some of the fun things they have experienced.

(Q) Why don’t you tell me a little about yourself and your band?

(A) My name is Randy Woody and I am the lead singer of a band called Randy Woody and the Southbound Band, we started back in 2006. We originated out of east Tennessee, just writing original songs and doing our own thing is what really got us up and going because there were not a lot of people in our area at the time that had original music. So, that got us going and one thing led to another, and then we were in big shows.

(Q) Who are some of the artists you have opened for?

(A) We’ve opened for acts like David Allan Coe, we’ve opened for him around six or seven times. Some of them are in east Tennessee, some more in Daytona at the Iron Horse Saloon. We’ve opened for Trent Thomlinson. We’ve opened for Luke Bryan, we’ve opened for Chicago, Montgomery Gentry, Confederate Railroad, Shooter Jennings, Randy Rogers, Casey Donahew, there’s a big list. We have worked really hard to get to this point.

(Q) How can people hear your music?

(A) We’re on every platform that you can download music from. That is Randy Woody, and the Southbound band. And the album that we have out right now is called, Sing me back to Dixie. So, they can find it there. We also have Facebook at Randy Woody and the Southbound Band and we have a website which is www.southbound-band.com

(Q) What brings you to La Grande?

(A) So, this is my second time in Oregon. The first time we came out and hung out with some friends of ours and then we got to meet Amanda [With Eastern Oregon Country Music Festival] who has done an amazing job getting this festival together and getting everything going and she called and said hey, would you guys be interested in coming out and playing this? And I said, yeah, I love Oregon, so I wanted to come back again.  I’ve had a lot more fun this time because I get to stay a little longer, do some more things that I wouldn’t normally get to do.

I’ve already played one show here in Joseph at the Stubborn Mule, and it was great. If every show is like that, I’ll be, I’ll be extremely happy.

(Q) Where is the furthest you have traveled?

(A) This is it and we drove; we didn’t fly.

(Q) How long did it take you to get here?

(A) 34 hours in a car.  A good old reliable Jeep.

(Q) What would you say is your favorite place you have been?

(A) Favorite place I’ve ever been is where we were at yesterday. We were on Mount Harris. We took the four-wheelers up. That’s the most beautiful, awesome thing I’ve ever done in my life. It was a lot of fun!
