HALFWAY– The Centennial Baker County Fair and Rodeo in Halfway, Oregon is coming up this Labor Day weekend at the Pine Valley Fairgrounds.

A member of the Elkhorn Media Group staff was able to have a short Q&A session with this year’s rodeo queen.

(Q) Could you start with an introduction?

(A) My name is Majestic Grove and I am currently serving as the 100th Baker County Fair and Rodeo Queen.

(Q) Where and when is the fair and rodeo?

(A) We are pretty excited, we are just about a week away, we kick off our rodeo on September 4th, and we will go through the weekend until the 6th.  We will do our final performances on the 6th.

(Q) Can you tell me a little bit about what brought you to this point, and what experiences you have had that have brought you to the point of being Queen?

(A) From the time I could walk, you would find me out the arena or in a horse’s stall.  Horses have always been a part of my life and have been so fascinating to me.

One thing I remember from when I was little was that there was a lot of parades in Baker. That’s where I’m from and seeing rodeo queens up on their horses during parades with the beautiful flowers and their crowns and just how happy that they looked, I just always wanted to be that. And that is what really led me to running for a rodeo royalty position.

 (Q) Is this the first time that you have ran for royalty court?

(A) No, I actually was on a different rodeo court last year. I served as the 2020 Hells Canyon Junior Rodeo Queen.

(Q) What sorts of things will people be able to look forward too if they attend the Baker County Fair and Rodeo this week?

(A) We have so many so many activities going on. It’s a fair and rodeo as you mentioned. So, we will have a lot of fair animals throughout the weekend. And then we will also be holding a pie auction. There will also be a parade.

(Q) I know you are starting your senior year of high school this year, so beyond the Baker County Fair and Rodeo, what sort of future plans do you have?

(A) I’m so excited for senior year. My plan now is that I want to run for State FFA office this coming spring.  If I get elected to that team, I be traveling to various schools next year and teaching different FFA members, so that is really really exciting so I’m looking forward to that. Fingers crossed that I get onto the team.

Eventually I want to end up at Oregon State University and study Ag Education

(Q) Do you have plans to return to Baker County after college?

(A) I am not sure I will return to Baker County, but I definitely want to stay in Eastern Oregon.

(Q) Is there anything else you would like to share?

(A) The one thing that I think is exciting is that, because of my future plans that we just chatted about, this will be my very last year in a rodeo royalty position. So, I just feel super, super blessed that I got to represent Baker County this year, the community of halfway, and Baker. Everybody has been so, so inviting for me and it made it such a wonderful year. I honestly couldn’t have asked to represent a better community for my final year.
