PENDLETON โ Thursday is Tough Enough to Wear Pink day at the Pendleton Round-Up. This is the 17th year the event has raised money to support local people who are fighting or have survived breast cancer.
Thereโs action before the rodeo even starts. Timed event slack is at 9 a.m. with free admission with a rodeo ticket. The Junior American Indian Beauty Pageant begins at 10 a.m. at Roy Raley Park. The Childrenโs Rodeo is at 10:30 with the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs scheduled to drop in at the start.
Also Thursday, Pendleton City Hall closes at 1 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday. Mayor John Turner said that a large number of city employees are part of the Round-Up and Happy Canyon army of volunteers.
โThere are people who have never seen the Round-Up or Happy Canyon Show because theyโve always been volunteering and some of them have been here for 20 years,โ he said. โThatโs the kind of dedication it takes to keep this thing going.โ
This evening the Happy Canyon Indian Pageant and Wild West Show begins at 7:45 and the doors to Goldieโs at the Canyon will open at 8 p.m. inside the Pendleton Convention Center. Goldieโs is for those 21 and older.
