Put your pink on at the Pendleton Round-Up

PENDLETON โ€“ Thursday is Tough Enough to Wear Pink day at the Pendleton Round-Up. This is the 17th year the event has raised money to support local people who are fighting or have survived breast cancer.

Thereโ€™s action before the rodeo even starts. Timed event slack is at 9 a.m. with free admission with a rodeo ticket. The Junior American Indian Beauty Pageant begins at 10 a.m. at Roy Raley Park. The Childrenโ€™s Rodeo is at 10:30 with the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs scheduled to drop in at the start.

Also Thursday, Pendleton City Hall closes at 1 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday. Mayor John Turner said that a large number of city employees are part of the Round-Up and Happy Canyon army of volunteers.

โ€œThere are people who have never seen the Round-Up or Happy Canyon Show because theyโ€™ve always been volunteering and some of them have been here for 20 years,โ€ he said. โ€œThatโ€™s the kind of dedication it takes to keep this thing going.โ€

This evening the Happy Canyon Indian Pageant and Wild West Show begins at 7:45 and the doors to Goldieโ€™s at the Canyon will open at 8 p.m. inside the Pendleton Convention Center. Goldieโ€™s is for those 21 and older.
