HERMISTON – Washington state troopers assisted the Oregon State Police with a pursuit that entered Washington state on Interstate 82 Monday morning. A WSP trooper used ‘stop sticks’ on the car just west of Coffin Road. The suspects in the vehicle fled on foot, but were caught and arrested.

They are identified as Joab Herrarte, 19, of Umatilla County and Jodyci Barajas, 18, of Hermiston. Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston said that the two are suspected of firing shots at the home at 1045 S.W. 11th St. at 7:25 a.m. today.  No one was injured and Edmiston said they have not found any immediate signs of property damage.

In what could be a related incident, the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office was backed up by Hermiston police at a shots fired incident in the county on the 29-thousand block of Bridge Road. Edmiston said that home is known to be the residence of Joab Herrarte.

Capt. Paul Wolverton said that the shots-fired incident Sunday at 11:50 p.m. occurred at 29870 Bridge Road. No one was at home when the shots were fired. UCSO responded with HPD and OSP assisting. Shell casings were found across the street from the home.

The resident, Elfrid Joab Herrarte arrived soon after the incident and was interviewed. Wolverton said the case is under investigation. The two suspects arrested by WSP on Monday have been booked into jail. They will face charges in both Washington and Oregon.
