UMATILLA COUNTY – Crews from Umatilla County Public Works tried and failed to make inroads in the snow-covered rural roads today (Monday). Director Tom Fellows said even once the snow became wetter, it would simply flow back onto the roadway after his crews tried to clear it.
“I don’t want to put my people and equipment at risk,” Fellows said. “We’re gearing up for a big push in the morning when the winds die down.”
In the meantime, Fellows urged people to stay at home.
“You can’t go anywhere once you get out,” he said. “So many main roads are closed. If you go out and get stuck, you need to call a wrecker or if there are medical issues, call 911.”
