HARNEY COUNTY-Public use restrictions reduced! Knock on wood, throw some salt over your shoulder, and cross your fingers: Dare we say the end of wildfire season is near?
As of yesterday, all Burns Interagency Fire Zone is at Moderate Fire Danger and Industrial Fire Precaution Level 2.
Fire prevention orders from July 22 on public lands managed by the BLM Burns District are rescinded and campfire and personal chainsaw use are allowed with a 1-hour fire watch.
The Emigrant Creek Ranger District portion of the Malheur National Forest is at Public Uses Restrictions Phase B; Campfires only in designated campgrounds such as Buck Springs, Delintment, Idlewild, Joaquine Miller, Rock Springs and Tip Top, and chainsaws are permitted between the hours of 8pm and 1pm with a 1 hour fire watch, there are no traveling or parking on areas not clear of flammable vegetation berm to berm.
Fireworks, exploding targets, incendiary devices etc. remain prohibited.
Wildfire danger still exists, and the Burns Interagency Fire Zone regularly deals with many human-caused incidents this time of year thanks to abandoned camp/warming fires. For questions, please call 573.4519.
