Summary

Notice Date: Tuesday, October 8th, 2024

Details

Grant Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), in partnership with the Bureau of
Reclamation (BOR), Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD), Oregon Office of
Emergency Management (OEM) and Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) will be conducting an Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) survey in Grant County.

WHY?
This survey will collect information regarding aquifer conditions to define potential
groundwater zones as well as possible aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) sites.

HOW?
Sensors will be mounted on a frame slung below a helicopter. The sensors will collect
information as the helicopter flies along a path over open spaces approximately 200
feet above the ground. The flights will occur during daylight in public airspace and
avoid populated areas, residences or confined livestock. The collected information
will be processed later this fall to show the distribution of clays, sands and gravels
below ground up to 800 feet deep throughout the project area.

WHERE?
The project area includes predominantly private land from the headwaters of the
John Day River southwest of Prairie City downstream to Dayville.

WHEN?
Flight Operations will begin this summer and are expected to last 10 days depending
on the weather, wildfires and other conditions.
