JOHN DAY – Aside from the meet-and-greet with incoming City Manager Melissa Bethel, the City of John Day have also planned a town hall for next month. Mayor Heather Rookstool said it’ll be a good chance for folks to create dialogue with the city council—more so than they are allowed during regular meetings:

“I’m hoping the town hall will be a way for people to get some questions and answers, or get back to them…

I know there is frustration in the community, and they come for a public comment, and we’re just doing what League of Oregon Cities tells us to do when it comes to that piece.”

Mayor Rookstool said during regular meetings the public will have the opportunity to comment, but the council have been advised not to provide comments in return.

Rookstool said the town hall will cover topics such as strategic planning and the treatment plant. That’ll be at the John Day Senior Center on January 23rd, beginning at 7 p.m.
