PORTLAND โ€“ Portland General Electric (PGE) is opening up access to its wildfire camera network, giving the public the opportunity to spot and report wildfires in the area. The cameras have already been in use by emergency management and firefighting agencies. The cameras are placed near PGE infrastructure in high-risk areas.

The public can access the public portal here. Areas that can be viewed include the Mullan Substation north of Dayton and an area north of Waitsburg in Washington. Oregon cameras include Latgawa Mountain in Lake County, and two cameras near Warm Springs in both Wasco and Jefferson Counties.

โ€œOpening public access to the real-time feeds for everyone is one of the ways we can help people plan for and make important decisions during potential emergency situations,โ€ said Ben Felton PGE executive vice president and chief operating officer in a release. โ€œPGE plans and prepares year-round to prevent wildfires, and this camera network is an important tool in our toolkit.โ€

PGE began installing the cameras in 2021 to better keep communities safe through smoke and fire detection and early alert warnings to first responders. PGEโ€™s network, powered by artificial intelligence, has now grown to almost 40 cameras.
