PENDLETON โ€“ The Pendleton School District Board of Directors has approved three athletic agreements with area high schools. They are Nixyaawii Community School, Weston-McEwen High School in Athena, and Griswold High School in Helix.

Pendleton Superintendent Chris Fritsch says a great deal of study goes into the agreements before they are brought to the board.

โ€œThese need to be win-win situations in a sense of yes it can benefit the students that are coming from a smaller school, but we donโ€™t want to also take spots away from our own kids that may have been working for years to be a member of a team,โ€ he said.

Each agreement is only good for one school year.

โ€œWho knows, these may work out to every year,โ€ Fritsch said. โ€œWe take our time. We try to study the numbers and make sure itโ€™s going to work for everybody.โ€

The agreement with Griswold is for football, wrestling, baseball, softball, and girls and boys golf. Girls soccer and girls swimming are the two sports agreed upon with Weston-McEwen. Football and wrestling are the sports at Nixyaawii. โ€œWe always have a priority with Nixyaawii,โ€ Fritsch said. โ€œTheyโ€™re Pendleton kids. Weโ€™ll always welcome them.โ€
