PENDLETON – The Pendleton School District is inviting parents, community members, business leaders, and students to help plan the next 20 years for Pendleton schools. The Long-Range Facility Planning Committee (LRFPC) is being formed to develop a capital plan recommendation for the superintendent and school board to consider.

The deadline to apply for a position on the committee is 4 p.m. Oct. 30. The group will meet once a month for about two hours and study the condition of the district’s buildings, current and projected enrollment, school capacity, safety, and program needs. LRFPC will then deliver its recommendations on or before Aug. 15, 2027.

“Our schools belong to this community, and so should their plan for the future,” Superintendent Michelle Jensen said. “We are looking for people from every corner of Pendleton who are willing to roll up their sleeves, learn about our facilities, listen to one another, and help us chart a responsible path forward for our students and our taxpayers.”

The committee will be made up of approximately 25 members. They will serve with two representatives of the school board and the superintendent. The school officials will not vote. There will also be representatives from each employee group and two student representatives.

People can apply online at https://forms.gle/gsbm6TMrrtT1W1UQ9, by picking up a paper application at the district office, 107 N.W. 10th St., or by email to Michelle Jones at mijones@pendletonsd.org to receive an application via email.

Serving on the committee isn’t the only way to have a voice for the future. Throughout the year, the district will offer the public additional opportunities to share their perspectives. That input will inform LRFPC’s work.
