PENDLETON – Pendleton School District employees are working hard to get ready to reopen schools for grades K-5 on Feb. 22. Parents will have the option to choose keeping their children at home for distance learning.
“Between now and then, our elementary schools are finalizing which parents will be sending their kids back on this part-time basis and finding out who needs transportation,” Superintendent Chris Fritsch said.
He said the most complicated piece of the AM/PM Hybrid reopening plan will be devising bus schedules for those children who need transportation. Approximately half the students will attend class in the morning, with the other half coming in the afternoon.
Middle and high school students will come back after the district proves it is keeping the virus out of schools.
“When we can demonstrate that we can either prevent or keep the virus out of elementary schools then we are allowed, depending on our case rates, to start talking about bringing pack our secondary students in a hybrid model,” Fritsch said.
