HERMISTON – Hermiston Raceway officials announced Saturday the facility is closing before the green flag waves for the 2025 season.
According to a post on Hermiston Raceway’s Facebook page, Greg Walden (not the former congressman), the owner, recently received a letter that the landowner has sold the property and the raceway must vacate the property by Wednesday, Jan. 15.
“To say I was caught off guard is an understatement,” the post on the Hermiston Raceway’s Facebook page reads. “We had a verbal agreement to continue in 2025 and were getting a plan together to purchase the facility. We had 10 events planned and were looking forward to a promising 2025 season. But as things stand, it seems we have already held our final event.”
The Walden family has a long history with race tracks. Greg Walden, a former race car driver, started racing when he was 16 when his father, Wayne, owned the Tri-City Raceway before selling it in 1998. Greg took over the Hermiston Raceway in 2018.
“Despite this gut-wrenching end, we want to extend our deepest thanks to the drivers, sponsors, and fans who supported us throughout the years,” the Facebook post states. “You helped make Hermiston Raceway a success, and for that, we are forever grateful.”
Hermiston Raceway’s signature events will be added to the existing schedule at Tri-City Raceway, where an 11 event schedule is planned for the 2025 season.
