Proactive Coaching comes to Hermiston

HERMISTON – Hermiston School Superintendent Tricia Mooney was a high school and college athlete. She understands how students can benefit from activities after school. That’s why she praises the work of the Hermiston Sports Booster Club.
“I give a shout out to Hermiston Boosters that have provided funding to bring in Proactive Coaching,” she said.
The coaches in Hermiston were coached this week about how to be proactive instead of reactive. The experts also met with parents and ended the week’s-worth of lessons with the players themselves.
“Athletics, activities, all of those extracurricular things that our kids are involved in play a huge part in keeping kids connected to school,” Mooney said.
She also said she believes coaching the coaches will be beneficial, although Hermiston’s coaches are already heroes in her eyes.
“There is not anywhere a coach that coaches in a K-12 district that does so for the money,” she said. “It is always to give back to a community, to a sport, to something that gave them something growing up. Coaching is a lot of hours away from their own families and putting a ton of time into our kids because our coaches have huge hearts.”
Proactive coaching is described online as a forward-thinking approach that focuses on developing self-awareness, skills, and performance before issues arrive.
