BOARDMAN – Fast action by private contractors at the Port of Morrow stopped a potential disaster when a wind-driven fire was halted Tuesday afternoon.
Boardman Fire Rescue District said when its crews arrived just after noon, a Port of Morrow bulldozer was cutting a containment line while water trucks from Watts Construction were already working to slow the blaze.
BFRD crews began containing the fire while the port’s bulldozer followed up with a control line.
“Because of the quick action of local construction crews this fire was quickly contained,” BFRD officials said in a statement.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Irrigon Rural Fire and Umatilla Rural Fire also responded.
