LA GRANDE – La Grande residents may have noticed the North 2nd Street Bridge over I-84 has been closed this week. This is part of the Union County Fairgrounds Wastewater project as crews work to install infrastructure on and near the overpass to connect the fairgrounds with the city’s water and septic system.
According to La Grande Public Works, now through July 15, crews will be installing the north side manhole and using a boom truck to lower pipe over the bridge rail for installation. During this time, the North 2nd Street Bridge will be closed in both directions each day from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition, drivers down below on I-84 will see some minor traffic disruptions, as one lane will need to be closed at a time from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. each day while work is ongoing. Remaining lane closures are as follows:
For anyone needing to cross the highway, the most convenient detour is along Spruce Street across the Grande Ronde River near Riverside Park.
