PRAIRIE CITY – Prairie City Mayor Scott Officer has resigned. For the first order of business at the February 15th City Council meeting, Officer recited his resignation letter, citing an increased workload with his job at the Forest Service:
“…This is a decision I have not taken lightly. With the ever-increasing responsibilities at my work, my ability to focus on the City of Prairie City has diminished greatly. I’m now facing a spring and summer workload that will make it nearly impossible for me to dedicate any time to the City for the remainder of my term of office.”
Officer’s resignation went into effect immediately, and Councilor Ed Clark was appointed as the mayor pro tempore until the end of the council meeting, when the City Council moved and unanimously voted to appoint Clark as the mayor for the rest of the term. The term for Prairie City Mayor ends in November of this year.
