Prairie City holding hearing to vacate right-of-way properties

PRAIRIE CITY – The City of Prairie City will be holding a public hearing on March 8th at City Hall. This will be to consider the petition filed by the city on June 8th, to vacate portions of Fourth Street West and Johnson Avenue North. Mayor Scott Officer was on Coffee Time last month, explaining that the city has 100-foot right of ways on some streets where it’s unnecessary, so they’ll be looking to vacate some property:

“…narrowing up our city right-of-ways.  The way that works, is the property on either side gets given extra.

The Mayor also talked about some alleyways being vacated:

The property on either side of the alleyway gets split in the middle and each one gains a little bit of property.”

The meeting is open to the public and will be held March 8th at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall in Prairie City. Find the press release from Prairie City below:

A public hearing will be held at 6:00 pm March 8, 2023 at City Hall in Prairie City, Oregon at 133 S Bridge Street, to consider the petition filled by the City of Prairie City filed June 8, 2022, to vacate portions of Fourth Street West and Johnson Avenue North. Land situated in Cleaver and Cozart’s Addition to Prairie City, according to the plat thereof, recorded April 26, 1900, in the office of the Grant County Clerk, said land being in the SW1/4 Section 2, T.13S., R.33E., W.M., City of Prairie City, Grant County, Oregon. Any interested party may testify at the hearing or submit written comment to the City Recorder prior to the hearing.
