PRAIRIE CITY – First Graders at Prairie City School have been hard at work, learning about the giving spirit this holiday season. Prairie City First Grade Teacher Christie Winegar said, “It began with selling raffle tickets for a load of gravel. The class sold $998.00 worth of raffle tickets. On Dec. 4th, Trace Andrew’s name was drawn from all the tickets to win the gravel. The class had planned to buy the Christmas meal at the Prairie City Senior Center and enjoy the dinner with everyone there. They managed to earn enough to do that and more.”
In addition to purchasing everyone’s meal at the Prairie City Senior Center, the First Graders were also able to donate $150.00 each to the Blue Mtn. Care Center for their activity fund, the Greater Prairie City Community Association, the Grant County Fairgrounds, and the Prairie City American Legion Post 106. Representatives from each of the organizations came to Prairie City School to collect their check from the First Graders and snap a quick photo.
Winegar said, “The American Legion sent nine veterans to talk to the kids and gave each one a flag of their own and bookmarks. Wednesday, Dec. 18, they plan on leading the Flag Salute at the Senior Center and enjoying a Christmas meal with all who attend.”
