PRAIRIE CITY – Prairie City Mayor Scott Officer was in the KJDY Newsroom recently, updating listeners on a concept that would expand parts of the sewer line to include industrial property outside the western edge of town. He said thanks to hard work from the office staff, employees were able to find some necessary documents needed by the Oregon Department of State Lands:
“The office staff did a bang-up job. I mean, [they found documents from] the Land Use Plan of 1985. We did some real digging! We found all that providence where we’d had all of the public hearings, and the meetings and we’d done all of those steps. [The] last word I got, was, as of yesterday, the State Department of Lands are updating their maps to match ours.”
Officer said that alignment should open the door to potential grant funding the city is seeking to further the project. The industrial property, or the “burn pile”, is just west of city limits and according to Officer, could potentially be a new commercial area for businesses if they expand the city’s border.
