UNION COUNTY – (Information provided by Union County Search and Rescue) Over the weekend the Union County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue joined Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office snowmobile patrol and SAR staff for an all-day companion and organized rescue refresher training taught by the Wallowa Avalanche Center. When someone gets caught in an avalanche, their best chance of survival is immediate rescue by their companions, and practicing rescue skills is essential to save time when seconds count. If you travel in or near avalanche terrain, it’s essential to read avalanche center forecasts, carry proper equipment, and practice with it often.
