PENDLETON – No Shave November is a thing of the past for the Pendleton Police Department. The national campaign to raise money to fight cancer just didn’t fit anymore since male officers are no longer required to be clean shaven, according to Police Chief Chuck Byram.
“We’re in a day and age now where that’s kind of a popular thing and I allowed that,” he said of the policy change. “I think it would be disingenuous of us to go into No Shave November knowing that we’re allowed to grow and shave our facial hair whenever we want to.”
Byram said the cancer fundraiser will be a competitive blood drive between the Pendleton Police Department and Pendleton Fire and Ambulance. It’s being organized by Diana Melton.
“On Jan. 6, we’re going to have a blood drive for the American Cancer Society,” Byram said. “We’re going to be accepting donations. We’re going to go out and solicit from businesses and individuals. Whoever gets the most has the bragging rights.”
More details will be announced as the time of the event approaches.
