PENDLETON – Pendleton police officers made two arrests over the weekend that were not related to the concert. The Saturday arrest involved a man alleged to have brandished a gun at a teenager. On Sunday, they arrested a woman who stole cans from a man and hit him with a hammer when he tried to get them back.
Chief Chuck Byram said that police had been looking for Mark Alan Deuce Romero, 31, since July 2. That’s related to a report that he brandished a gun at a 16-year-old male. A patrol officer saw Romero who took off running west on the river levee early Saturday morning. Officers caught up and arrested him in the 300 block of Southwest Court Avenue.
During the arrest, police located a loaded .22 revolver in the area where Romero was observed to be hiding. Charges against him include unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree disorderly conduct, and menacing. He is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In the second arrest, police responded to a 911 call reporting a male and female were involved in an altercation over a bag of cans and that the woman was swinging a hammer at the man. The officers arrived at 11:21 a.m. Sunday, and interviewed both parties. The investigation revealed that Theresa Guardipee, 41, of Pendleton took the bag of cans from the victim. When he attempted to get the bag back, she hit him in the back with a hammer. Police say both the injury to the man supported his statement as well as the statement of a witness. She is charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. She was also charged with being in possession of a violation amount of suspected methamphetamine.
PPD is sending both cases to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office.
