This following statement was issued by Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department and EMS at 9 a.m. on Sat., 7/27/24:

“This fire had crews on scene last night. Found many hot spots along the river. Also some hot spots on the Government Road area. All outside resources were sent home yesterday afternoon. We can not say enough about the support from the local farming community for the tractors and disks. These guys can put some fire out on ground so steep you can not walk on it. Thank you all for you time. This fire would be up in the Blues without the farmers! Thanks to all of the citizens for the supplies they so kindly donated for the fire crews. The support in the time of need is amazing. We all pull together to help our neighbors what a great community we live in. More to come.”
