Hanford Site cleared after construction noises trigger reports of shots fired

UPDATE 2:24 PM, 03/01/22 – The Hanford Site has returned to normal duties following an earlier report of shots fired.

UPDATE 1:50 PM, 03/01/22 – Hanford Site personnel, with the exception of 2750E Building personnel, can now return to their normal duties. Current reports indicated work activities in the immediate area likely caused the noises originally reported as shots fired.

UPDATE 12:08 PM, 03/01/22 – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office reports law enforcement has searched the building. They have not located any victims inside the building or any evidence at this time of shots being fired. Law enforcement will be conducting additional searches of the building.

RICHLAND – The U.S. Department of Energy, Richland Operations Office, reports authorities are responding to a report of a possible active shooter at the 2750E Building in the 200 East area, which is near the center of the Hanford site.

Hanford Patrol is on scene. There is no confirmation of shots fired at this time.

As a precaution, affected 2750 E personnel have been evacuated, all site personnel have been directed to go indoors, and access to the Hanford Site has been restricted.

Hanford employees in nearby buildings are currently in lockdown. This is a developing story, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
