Portions of 2nd Street in La Grande Closed for Reconstruction Projects

LA GRANDE – (Release from La Grande Public Works Department) La Grande Public Works began work on the Second Street (K Avenue to Penn Avenue) reconstruction project on Monday, April 17, 2023. Crews close Second Street from Penn Avenue to N Avenue on Monday at 6 am, and it will remain closed until the work on the roadway has been completed. Closure of the remainder of the project will be completed in phases as the work progresses. The street closure will temporarily affect the intersections at both Second and M Avenue and Second and N Avenue for shorter periods of time while work is completed within these intersections.
Crews will be performing excavation and removal of curbs, sidewalk sections, and corner ramps within the project area. Additionally, an aging 18-inch steel water main located within the roadway will be replaced with a ductile iron main. The entire project will be paved at one time, once preparation work has been completed.
Second Street will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project, so plan on alternative routes for your commute for the next few months. K Avenue and Penn Avenue will remain open during the project. Please contact Public Works at (541) 962-1325 with any questions.
