Police seek man who shot a water pipe

PENDLETON – Pendleton police officers are looking for a man who fired a gun at a party at America’s Best Value Inn Saturday evening. Chief Chuck Byram told KUMA News that no one was hurt but the plumbing was damaged. There was an employee party happening at the motel when the man arrived.

“He showed up to the party intoxicated based on witness statements,” Byram said. “He was displaying several knives and a handgun (and) was basically telling people at the party that he was some type of firearms inspector. He even had business cards.”

Byram did not know if the man was himself an employee at the motel. He declined to name the suspect until  he’s arrested. He could face numerous charges, including reckless endangerment, unlawful use of a weapon, and criminal mischief.  The new chief said the shot that was fired was bizarre.

“He ended up shooting a hole through the wall because he believed that he could use a toilet paper roll as a silencer,” Byram said. “Just goes to show you that just because you can own a firearm, it doesn’t mean you should.”
