WALLA WALLA – A Walla Walla man, identified as Austin Hill, 24, was arrested Monday after allegedly assaulting an officer, eluding police and ending the chase by driving a vehicle on its rims.
According to the Walla Walla Police Department, dispatch was notified at 10:29 a.m. by a citizen that Hill was passed out in his vehicle near Garrison and Commercial streets. Once the citizen attempted contact with Hill, he took off from the location. Officers were notified that he parked his vehicle in the parking lot of 7-Eleven.
An officer contacted Hill at 7-Eleven, who was still sitting in the vehicle, and noticed that the he appeared to be ingesting suspected illegal narcotics at the time of contact. The officer also stated he could see suspected drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Hill would not follow the officers command to exit the vehicle. While attempting to remove Hill, Hill fought with the officer and was able to place the keys back into the ignition and start the vehicle. Hill took off from the scene in his vehicle as another officer was arriving to provide back up. Officers then gave chase.
Hill stopped the vehicle after losing two of his tires and driving on rims. Hill led officers on a chase through the east end of Walla Walla, stopping near Division and Lincoln streets.
