PENDLETON – Pendleton police got an allegedly impaired driver off the road thanks to a tip from a citizen early Tuesday morning.
“An individual, operating what appeared to be a bright yellow firetruck down Southwest Court Avenue by Dairy Queen was shouting vulgarities over the PA system from the fire truck,” Byram said of the call to 911.
Officers tracked the truck down to the Sinclair station on Southgate. Byram said that Steven James Montgomery, 59, of Deer Park, Washington was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants. Byram said Montgomery is a collector who recently purchased the fire engine.
“That’s one of those things where our citizenry is paying attention even after midnight,” Byram said. “We want to thank that individual for calling. That’s honestly what we expect because we can’t be everywhere at once.”
