PENDLETON – The Pendleton Historical Preservation Commission is awarding the first Goodwin Award to Al and Gail Plute. The award is to honor people who have dedicated time and resources to preserve Pendleton’s historic character.
The Plutes have played a major role in restoring and revitalizing some of the city’s prominent historic downtown buildings.
“Their work brought new life to upper story apartments, restored commercial storefronts, supported local businesses, and preserved the architectural details that make downtown Pendleton unique,” the commission stated.
The award is named for Moses and Aura Goodwin. They played significant roles in establishing Pendleton and Historic Preservation Commission Chair Shannon Gruenhagen said the Plutes embody the values that were begun by the Goodwins.
“Mr. and Mrs. Plute have made a lasting impact on our downtown and their work reflects the very purpose of this award,” she said.
The community is invited to attend the award ceremony from 5-:30-7 p.m. May 16 at Great Pacific. The event is free and light food and beverages will be provided.
