UPDATE: The individual has voluntarily turned himself over to police, is being transported to the hospital, and has agreed to seek assistance. Island Avenue is reopening. Thanks to the efforts of our trained negotiator, the incident concluded safely. We also thank the Oregon State Police, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and La Grande Fire Department for their assistance.

LA GRANDE – (Release from La Grande Police) Police activity is currently underway on Island Avenue between Adams Avenue and Monroe Street due to a suicidal individual on the train bridge. Multiple police units have secured the area, and trained negotiators are actively in contact with the subject. For public safety, please avoid this area until further notice. Updates will be provided as the situation is resolved.
