WALLULA – Tri-Cities Intermodal has signed a lease/purchase agreement with Union Pacific Railroad to acquire the former Cold Connect warehouse and property in Wallula to develop an intermodal center.

The plan represents a revival for the site after Tiger Cool Express shut down operations in June.

Tri-Cities Intermodal envisions the center as a benefit for the agricultural communities of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho by offering service to the Northwest Seaport Alliance on-dock facilities, plus supporting Union Pacific’s intermodal customers moving goods from Wallula to Chicago and beyond.

Union Pacific Railroad said it’s excited about Tri-Cities Intermodal advancing an initiative that will remove thousands of trucks from the highway in a region that continues to grow in logistical importance.
