JOHN DAY – The total solar eclipse happens next week, and it will be seen in totality throughout many parts of the United States…just not in Grant County, this time around. The path of totality will be much farther south. Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush said we likely won’t have to prepare for the influx of people like we did in 2017, when we were in the path of totality:

“The planning and preparation is almost a non-event for us because of our location, because we are not in the path for this particular one. Folks that are in the path? That’s a different story. Those folks in those locales are definitely going to have to prepare, because they’re going to have an influx of people.”

Following Monday, the next total solar eclipse will be in August of 2044.
