WALLA WALLA – Visitors to Pioneer Park will now see a new sign that commemorates the iconic tree limb near the park’s historic bandstand. The sign represents how much the community loves that tree limb which has been a popular photo spot for years.

In January 2020 and again in May 2021, after the pandemic interrupted initial work on the project, the city invited residents to submit photos of themselves and their families enjoying the original limb. The new sign features 55 photos — 52 showing folks of all ages with the limb; one photo of the limb prior to it being removed due to poor health in 2019; and two photos of the bronze limb at its unveiling in 2021. The bronze version was cast and donated by the Anderson family and Walla Walla Foundry as a gift to the community.

The new sign was designed by the city’s communications staff which was produced and donated by Integrity Design & Copyworks. The frame was manufactured and donated by Reiff Manufacturing. Installation was performed by city parks and facility maintenance staff.

Anyone with additional photos of the original limb they would like to share may submit them at https://www.wallawallawa.gov/our-city/tree-limb-photo-submission-form. The photos will be included in an future online photo album. Submission of images via this form constitutes consent for the city of Walla Walla to modify, print, and publish the images at the city’s sole discretion.
