PILOT ROCK (News release from the Pilot Rock Police Department) On October 31st, 2024, at 10:07 a.m. out of the abundance of caution the police department requested that the Pilot Rock Elementary School be placed into secure mode due to law enforcement activity in the area. The secure mode was lifted at 10:35 a.m.

Secure mode is defined as the following:

Secure mode at a school is a protocol that protects students and staff from threats outside the school building. It’s implemented when there’s a threat or hazard in the area, such as: criminal activity, police activity, a dangerous animal, a medical emergency, and/or a disturbance in the area.

During secure mode, the school’s exterior doors are locked, and students are brought inside. The school’s normal functions, like classes, usually continue. However, there’s heightened vigilance on campus, and recesses and outdoor activities are often reduced.

The police department would like to thank the public for their understanding in this matter. Our agency will always put the safety of students and staff as our top priority.
