PILOT ROCK – This week, ground was broken for the construction of a Family Dollar Store in Schoolhouse Village on Southwest Fourth Street in Pilot Rock. Umatilla County Board of Commissioners Chairman George Murdock said he was surprised to find how much economic development is going on in the eastern part of the county, since for so long the focus has been growth on the west side.
“There is life beyond COVID, and I think that Umatilla County is going to look different simply because of the economic development that’s going on,” Murdock said. “It’s really a bright picture.”
In addition to the store, the Pilot Rock City Council has also approved the development of two commercial RV parks. One will be across the street from Life Church and the other is near 10th Street off Highway 395.
The city has also approved partitions for two new manufactured homes and officials are working with Eastern Oregon Business Source to develop a marketing plan for more than 100 acres of industrial land.
