Pilot forced to make emergency landing on Indian Creek Rd outside of Elgin

Update from the Union County Sheriff’s Office Earlier today, a plane needed to make an emergency landing from 21,000 feet in Union County. The aircraft, traveling from Seattle to Texas, experienced a mechanical issue and landed on Indian Creek Road.

Once the pilot checked the plane for damage and was confident of a safe takeoff, he took off, with assistance from the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The pilot then landed at the Union County Airport. The FAA and NTSB also cleared the aircraft to move.

There were no injuries to the pilot or property damage to the road.

UCSO was assisted by the Union County Public Works and Oregon State Police. Elgin Fire and Ambulance was on standby during the takeoff.

Travelers along Hwy82 outside of Elgin may see a small aircraft on Indian Creek Rd. According to the Union County Sheriff, a small aircraft was experiencing mechanical issues but was able to make a safe landing on the roadway. A plan is being made to remove the aircraft.
