BOARDMAN – Portland General Electric has been fined $260,700 by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for air quality violations at the Carty Plant near Boardman.
According to a mutual agreement and final order from the DEQ, PGE exceeded its permitted emission levels due to improper calculation tracking and then failed to report those excess emissions in a timely manner.
The DEQ agreed to mitigate the cash penalty to $52,140. The remaining $208,560 will be paid to Nixyaawii Community Financial Services for a supplemental environmental project to install a solar energy system on the future Community Commerce Center on the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Mission.
PGE has applied to modify its air permit to increase its plant site emission limits.
