SALEM – Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Planning Director Patricia Perry has been confirmed by the Oregon State Senate as the newest member of the Energy Facility Siting Council. She was appointed by Gov. Tina Kotek to the position. Her term will end on June 20, 2029.

Perry has a master’s degree in forestry and has served several roles in Umatilla County including her current position at CTUIR.

“I am very appreciative of the governor, senate, CTUIR, and coworkers’ support and am honored to be appointed and confirmed to a seat on the council,” Perry said.

The council evaluates and deliberates issues associated with proposed energy facilities under state jurisdiction and how those facilities affect Oregon’s citizens, nearby communities, and environment. The council has the authority to approve or deny site certificates for the construction and operation of energy facilities.

If a site certificate is granted, the council has ongoing regulatory authority over the construction and operation of it. The council also regulates the transportation of radioactive materials through Oregon, the disposal of radioactive materials within the state, and the decommissioning of the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant north of Portland on the Columbia River.
