PENDLETON – The position of fire marshal with Pendleton Fire & Ambulance will no longer be another set of responsibilities for the fire chief. Pasco Fire Prevention and Planning Officer Valorie Tomren is heading to Pendleton.

“She will be filling that role for us,” Chief Tony Pierotti said. “I’ll let her take that on and I’ll be able to do other things.”

Pierotti said the department had suffered from a shortage of people who are trained to serve as fire marshals, causing the need to have the fire chief take on additional responsibilities.

“The state of Oregon has hired in the last year a lot of fire marshals and so we were poor in that area in terms of expertise,” he said.

One of the main responsibilities of a local fire marshal is to perform fire and arson investigations.
