PENDLETON – The Pendleton City Council will consider proposed changes to the city’s dog ordinances at its meeting tonight (Tuesday night) at 7. The meeting will be in council chambers of Pendleton City Hall. It will also be available on Zoom. The meeting ID is 823 4889 2532 and the pass code is 814185.

Amendments to three dog ordinances arose because they were written prior to the creation of the dog park which allows dogs to run at large within the park. While making those amendments, staff reported that both the nuisance ordinance and the parks ordinance also needed updating.

Staff is also asking the council to help solve a problem that has occurred at the dog park in Til Taylor Park. They learned that owners are releasing their dogs into the park and then leaving the premises. The proposed ordinances, being presented to the council for the first time, would prohibit that practice.

Also on the agenda, the public works staff is recommending the council approve spending $279,000 of COVID funds to upgrade the HVAC system for the Vert Auditorium.

“The air conditioning no longer works,” the staff report states. “The current system is noisy and therefore disruptive during performances and events. It is having difficulty maintaining comfort levels throughout the facility.”

The bid award will go to Gordon’s Heating & Cooling, Inc. of Pendleton if approved by the council.
