PENDLETON – The Pendleton School District (PSD) Board of Directors meets at 6 p.m. today (Monday) at district headquarters on Northwest 10th Street. In addition to several state policies and reports, the board will also consider approving some athletic partnerships for the coming school year.
Nixyaawii Community School has boys and girls track and field teams and coaches, but no practice facility. They are seeking to use the facilities at Pendleton High School and to practice alongside those teams.
Nixyaawii and Griswold High School in Helix have students who would like to baseball, but not enough to field teams. PSD is proposing a one-year sponsorship that includes athletes from those schools. It will not have a negative impact on Pendleton’s 4A classification status with the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA).
Nixyaawii Community School does not have enough student athletes to field a full team for football. As with baseball, a sponsorship agreement between the two schools would not impact Pendleton’s classification with OSAA. Staff is proposing that the two schools enter into a four-year partnership that would last through the 2029-30 school year.
The public is welcome to attend the meeting. To attend the meeting virtually, call the district at 541-276-6711.
