Pendleton projects get nothing

PENDLETON – The 2023 session of the Oregon Legislature is over, and Pendleton came out of it with empty pockets.

Mayor John Turner said the budget makers had received funding requests from two day care groups for expansion, a request for infrastructure funding that would help develop the Rees-Goad property for housing, building a youth sports complex, and for supplemental funds for FARM II due to inflation.

“We got nothing,” he said. “When you watch literally hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars go into projects along the I-5 corridor and nothing coming out here and then claim we have no rural-urban divide, I don’t believe that’s true.”

Turner is not giving up, however.

“I do have a phone conversation with Governor Kotek scheduled on Monday to ask her if there are other pots of money that we can get some help from, and we’ll see how that develops,” he said.
