PENDLETON – Pendleton police officers were dispatched to Pendleton Square Apartments II at 294 SW 28th Drive Monday at 11:30 p.m. for a reported disturbance. When the scene was cleared, a corporal was taken to the hospital for a fractured hand and Jason Alan Bathurst, 19, was cleared by medics and housed in the Umatilla County Jail.

Chief of Police Chuck Byram said that when officers arrived on the scene, they observed Bathurst causing a disturbance. He also broke out a window in the complex.

“Officers noted that Bathurst had a large rock in his hand,” Byram stated. “Officers attempted to detain Bathurst in handcuffs, but he refused to comply and began actively fighting the officers. During the course of the altercation with Bathurst, a Pendleton Police Department corporal suffered a fracture to his left hand.”

Byram said the injured officer was treated at St. Anthony Hospital and will be off active duty for several weeks. Bathurst was checked by medics before he was transported to the jail. PPD was backed up by officers from the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the Stanfield Police Department at the scene.

Bathurst is charged with one count of felony attempted unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of attempted assault of a public safety officer, two counts of second-degree disorderly conduct, one count of interfering with a police officer, and one county of menacing.
